There are three stories in the book. In the first story, the newly arrived Mariah starts exploring her worldone made for real people to live in. In the second story, Mariah goes on to become close friends with Charlotte, even though they have different beliefs, and in the final story, she discovers a talent for writing and the associated challenges. Mariah and the other characters in the stories are dolls who live and have adventures while living in the real world. The fact that Mariah is a doll, sometimes creates obstacles for her, but they are situations that will be familiar to children and even adults. In the stories, children learn about facing difficulties and about forming relationships. Although this is primarily a picture book, the stories will appeal to children of all ages, boys as well as girls, and should also be enjoyed by adults who like dolls. The story ideas and text become gradually more complex with each story. The large type is suitable for even young readers.
The Doll's Storybook originated as a weekly story blog for the author's grandchildren in June 2018. The author has worked in various fields as the family relocated due to her husband's job. Her occupations included teaching, social work and magazine writing and editing. The interest in pediatric cancer stems from volunteer work with Therapy Animals of Utah, where she and one of her dogs visited camp Hob, a summer camp for children impacted by cancer. This led to the decision to donate the proceeds from the book to St. Jude. She is currently retired and living in Bend, Oregon, with her husband and two dogs. The Doll's Storybook has a Facebook page. The blog may be found at http: //thedollsstorybook.blogspot.com.
