A classic favourite and beloved for over sixty years, this anniversary edition is perfect for both young readers and lifelong fans.
Once there was a tree ... and she loved a little boy.
So begins a story of unforgettable perception, beautifully written and illustrated by the gifted and versatile Shel Silverstein.
Every day the boy would come to the tree to eat her apples, swing from her branches, or slide down her trunk. And the tree was happy. But as the boy grew older he began to want more from the tree, and the tree gave and gave and gave.
This tender story, touched with sadness, is a moving parable about the gift of giving and the capacity to love.
Shel Silverstein (1930 -1999) was an American writer, poet, cartoonist, singer-songwriter, musician and playwright. His incomparable career as a bestselling children's book author and illustrator began in 1963 with the publication of Lafcadio, the Lion Who Shot Back. He is also the creator of picture books, including the perennial favourite The Giving Tree, as well as classic poetry collections, such as Where the Sidewalk Ends and A Light in the Attic.
