Move and back and forth in time in Stella Raymond's fascinating book comparing how life is lived now in Aboriginal communities to how it was lived in the olden days. Written in English and Kriol, Stella's home language, this book not only is an insight into Aboriginal life now and then, but also to a language that is widely spoken across the top of Australia.
Stella Raymond lives in Binjari, which is located near Katherine in the Northern Territory. Binjari is home to about 200 Aboriginal people who mainly speak Kriol. Stella wrote her book during an Indigenous Literacy Foundation workshop that was facilitated by Denise Angelo, linguist and Kriol literacy consultant, and author and illustrator, Julie Haysom. The Binjari Buk Mob 2017 comprises 14 women from Binjari who shared in the writing and illustrating of the nine books that were produced at the workshop.
