This book brings to life for children the history of Auckland around the big Waterview tunnel project in a blend of English and Maori. What the children learn on a car trip from Te Atatu about Matariki and the new tunnel leads on to a big discovery once they reach Owairaka (Mount Albert) -- that old tunnels also run under here and are part of some great stories!

Author Bio

Malcolm Paterson belongs to Ngati Whatua of Auckland and the Kaipara, and represents his iwi in heritage and environmental issues. A qualified medical doctor, Malcolm also has a masters degree in environmental management. He is author of The Castle in our Backyard (2010). He lives with his family in Te Atatu, Auckland.Hana Maihi belongs to Ngati Whatua and Ngati Ranga. As a design graduate specialising in digital storytelling she is passionate about connecting people to heritage, culture and the environment. She lives in Auckland.
