Ramone, a shy, ruby-throated hummingbird, is about to leave the nest for the first time. But his anxiety and fear keep him from taking off as he contemplates all that could go wrong. Full of kind words and encouragement, Ramone's mother gives him room to work through his emotions, building his confidence and letting him set his own pace. Ramone watches as his friends soar through the sky, realising all he might miss out on if he doesn't conquer his fear. Ramone's adventure showcases the emotions, both positive and negative, children experience as they approach new challenges. Accompanied by strikingly beautiful illustrations, this tale guides readers through Ramone's emotional journey, showing kids that fear must be overcome in order to grow. Soar is a great story that teaches youngsters about hummingbirds, but also about the importance of trying to overcome our fears. The title exemplifies Ramones feelings once he tries to overcome his fears; the lilting tone of the rhyming verse makes the reader feel like soaring, too. A simple story but with an important message.Reviewed byEmily-Jane Hills Orford -- Readers' Favorite (5-star review)
"A steady rhyme and rhythm that makes readingSoarso fun. The rhyme also helps to share Ramones worry and fear in a way that kids will find comfortable and see the parallel in their own lives." -- Lliteracious
"The artwork of this story is as beautiful and captivating as the encouragement it gives. Everyonehas found themselves in Ramone's shoes at one time or another. Firsts can be scary. Uncertainty can cripple hope, rob courage, and leave even the strong shaking. Ramone learns to stand in the face of uncertainty, to dare to believe in himself and overcome his fear. And joy quickly follows. Every reader will identify and find strength to overcome the scary firsts in their own lives. We can all SOAR with Ramone! (Ages 5-8)" -- Story Monsters Ink
