Born and raised in Leicester, David wanted to be an artist from the age of 5. He graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1993, then travelled around Asia with sketchbooks for 3 years, before moving to London in 1997. David worked as a commercial illustrator before falling into childrens publishing in 2006, illustrating Andy StantonsMr Gumseries which went on to win numerous awards, including the first Roald Dahl Funny Prize in 2008. He has illustrated many childrens books since, includingEleanors Eyebrows,You Cant Take An Elephant On The Bus,The Truth According to Arthur,The Pet,Donut Diaries,Circus Of ThievesandEinstein the Penguin.
