Horizontally split pages allow readers to mix and match the tops and bottoms of the pages to create whimsical creatures. . Unlike typical counting books for young children, the numbers in this book do not appear in sequence, providing an additional level of challenge with counting. . From "whiskers" to "ankles" children become acquainted with a variety of words that describe body parts of the creatures they can build. . Children may choose to simply create a variety of creatures or incorporate the counting element as well. . Dutch artist Nelleke Verhoeff's distinct, contemporary style makes this book a stylish addition to any collection.
With every turn of the bottom half of the book you get to count and recount a number of different toes, feet, scales, ankles, etc. The top is the same with different numbers of ears and wrinkles and so on and such. If a parent were to enjoy flipping through this with a kid, then the two could count together the new numbers as they present themselves . . . Brilliant! Betsy Bird, Librarian, @FuseEight
Joyful bonding moments accumulate like fruit from a gently shaken tree every time this utterly charming split-page board book is opened . . .
