Description

Jacob and Max, and Bella and Lucas, are back to resolve another of Nana's problems - "Nana's back porch is draughty and old, it's dangerous, slippery, rickety and cold." "He kauanu te mahau o Kui, he kino, parori, mania, tawhito." Nana's New Porch - Te Mahau Hou o Kui reflects the can-do attitude of Kiwis and captivates young readers with the process, tools and teamwork required for a true-to-life construction project. Rachel Doragh's dynamic illustrations incorporate related Maori words and phrases and bring the story to life with authentic, construction-site detail. Piripi Walker's translation has kept the words simple and clear, so the rhythm is right, and each sentence flows when delivered aloud.

Author Bio

Marie Munro is a former primary school teacher, who has been a professional writer for over 30 years. She believes fostering a love of books and reading is the most valuable gift we can give any child, so is now turning the invisible "Magic Stories" of her classroom years into tangible books for children, and those who enjoy reading with them. The te reo Maori find-it activities, vibrant illustrations, and book design are the work of illustrator, Rachel Doragh who, as a mother and former school librarian, knows what gives picture books kid-appeal. Translator, Piripi Walker (Ngati Raukawa) is an accredited Maori translator. He has translated a range of children's books, including Margaret Mahy's "He Raiona i roto i nga Otaota - A Lion in the Meadow", Gay Hay's "Te Papangarua a Tiwaiwaka - Fantail's Quilt", and Gavin Bishop's "Koinei te Whare na Haki i Hanga - This is the House that Jack Built".
