London, 1951: Clem Fatale, the youngest crook in the city, is on a mission to find her dad. Jimmy Fatale, notorious jewel thief and leader of the Spider Gang, has gone missing and with him the greatest prize in London: the Fool's Canary.
Along with her prisoner and/or sidekick Gilbert (depends who you're asking), Clem sets off on a rip-roaring chase through the London underworld. Racing through dodgy dives, glamorous nightclubs, greasy spoons and secret alleyways, Clem and Gilbert are soon pursued by a host of friends and foes.
Will Clem find her father in time Or will the most sinister villain this side of the river put a stop to all her plans
A rollicking middle grade series full of madcap escapades, fast-talking dames and unlikely heroes, perfect for fans of MURDER MOST UNLADYLIKE, ENOLA HOLMES, ADVENTURES ON TRAINS and Katherine Woodfine.
I am tired of Eve Wersocki-Morris being the best-kept secret in children's literature. I want everyone to be reading her mysterious and mesmerizing books. Please do your part. * Lemony Snicket, author of A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS *
Unique, clever and heist filled. An absolute gem of a book that is equal parts irreverent, heart-warming and hilarious. I honestly laughed and smiled so much reading this that my face hurt! * A. F. Steadman, author of SKANDAR AND THE UNICORN THIEF *
A sparkling adventure with a truly splendid heroine ... an absolute treat! * Katherine Woodfine, author of the TAYLOR AND ROSE SECRET AGENT series *
An absolute blast for all hoodlums and good guys. Thrills and spills all the way - a huge amount of fun. * Sam Copeland, author of ALEX VS AXEL *
Gangsters, mystery, humour, unlikely friendships, a twisty adventure ... and the most gorgeous descriptions and dialogue. * Mel Taylor-Bessent, author of RACE TO IMAGINATION ISLAND *
It's cosy and riotous and atmospheric. The London underworld of 1951 explodes on to the page, and Clem Fatale, the youngest crook in the city, is a joy. * Nicola Penfold, author of WHERE THE WORLD TURNS WILD *
Stuffed with comedy set-ups and tickling dialogue, I guarantee this bobby dazzler will take you to the cleaners and rinse you of all your laughs. It will definitely steal your heart. I absolutely loved it. * Rachel Delahaye, author of MORT THE MEEK *
This high-octane adventure delivers fun, adventure, mystery, pulsating action and a brilliantly imagined cast of characters * Lancashire Post *
This is a fabulous new read packed with humour and dastardly adventure. I loved it! * Rachel Bolton, Read for Good *
Exhilarating and witty * Waterstones *
Eve Wersocki Morris (Author)
Eve Wersocki Morris grew up in North London and has been making up stories her whole life. Diagnosed with dyslexia aged 12 and called out by a teacher as the 'worst speller in the class', she is now the author of two novels for older MG readers, with her debut The Bird Singers now nominated for multiple awards. A standout performer at school events thanks to a background in drama, Eve is also a volunteer with Coran Beanstalk Literary Charity.
Honie Beam (Illustrator)
Honie Beam was once let loose in a library and never looked back. In pursuit of her childhood goals to become an artist, an author and a smoothie maker, she studied Illustration and Sequential Art at Maryland Institute College of Art. Now based in Greenville, South Carolina Honie spends her free time drinking (a lot) of coffee, playing (badly) the mandolin, and doodling (on important documents) dragons. Her work is inspired by the countless books she consumed as a child and a desire to spark that same passion in others.
