Description

Adventure and magic collide in Land of the Last Wildcat, Lui Sit's fast-paced debut children's novel about family, friendship and the beauty of our natural world. Illustrated throughout in black and white by David Dean. Puffin Lau has two problems: her beloved scientist mum barely speaks to her . . . and a mythical wildcat called the kuri is depending on her for its survival. Luckily, Puffin grew up on stories of the kuri and its magical powers, and she will stop at nothing to return it to its rightful home. But standing in her way is the ominous Professor Smoult, a money-hungry scientist who wants to capture the kuri and steal its magic. Faced with a mammoth journey to the faraway Linger Island, Puffin and her best friend Lance must evade the professor and save the last wildcat before it's too late . . . "A heart-pounding adventure for young animal lovers, with brilliant storytelling and illustrations that leap right off the page. You will paws-itively adore this one!" - Carlie Sorosiak, author of I, Cosmo

Author Bio

Lui Sit was born in Hong Kong, raised in Australia and lives in London. She fell in love with reading, then writing when she learned English at primary school. Branching out, she started writing plays which she took on the road, to Class 4B & C. Poetry replaced plays when, aged 9, she got paid $5 for her first ever publication - A Ballad of War. As an adult, she has worked in the arts, education, publishing and charity sectors, writing in secret at all these workplaces. True to form, she's still writing in multiple genres - children's middle grade, adult short fiction and non-fiction. Becoming a children's author is her definition of, delight David Dean lives near Manchester with his two cats, and has been illustrating professionally for over twenty years, though he's been drawing since he was old enough to pick up a pencil. For the past decade he has primarily worked as a book cover illustrator and has now created close to 200 covers, for books by some of the UK's best-loved children's writers. That people keep letting him do this baffles him, but brings him endless joy.
