Tess lives in the turns, a network of tunnels under the River Tees, with her Aunt Peg and her monstrous Unkle Darkwater. When Aunt Peg starts to develop signs of dementia, Tess must find someone else to keep her safe. And she is beginning to doubt her aunt's stories about her origins, too. Tess longs to find out the truth about her family once and for all, but that will mean leaving the turns, and she has never been on dry land before or mingled with dry-folk. Can she survive away from the river And does she have the strength to take control of who she will become

Author Bio

Mike Edwards is a writer and spoken word performer who has performed at festivals and events across the UK, including as poetry coach on Apples and Snakes national slam poetry project Shake the Dust, and BBC Radio 3s spoken word show The Verb. He has a Masters in Creative Writing from Northumbria University and facilitates creative workshops in schools, prisons and community venues. He is a recipient of a New Writing North Northern Promise Award and this will be his first published work. Mike lives in Teesside.

Jason Cockcroft's illustrations for A Pilgrim's Progress won the Blue Peter Children's Award in 2000. He also illustrated the cover of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Jason lives in North Yorkshire.
