Joan Sweeney grew up in Toledo, Ohio. In addition to Me and the Measure of Things, she wrote Me on the Map, Me and My Place in Space, Me and My Family Tree,Me and My Amazing Body, Me Counting Time,and Me and My Senses. She used to spend Saturday mornings taking free art classes at the Toledo Museum of Art. She had three "grown-up" children and five grandchildren. Joan Sweeney passed away in March 2017. Katie Kath earned an MFA from Savannah College of Art and Design and works as a freelance illustrator.
