Meade Falkner was born in 1858 in Wiltshire and spent much of his childhood in Dorchester and Weymouth before settling in Durham. He studied at Oxford and became a successful businessman, travelling widely. He wrote three novels: The Lost Stradivarius, Moonfleet and The Nebuly Coat. He died in 1932.
