The tales of Ratty, Mole, Badger and Toad. When Mole goes boating with the Water Rat instead of spring-cleaning, he discovers a new world. As well as the river and the Wild Wood, there is Toad's craze for fast travel which leads him and his friends on a whirl of trains, barges, gipsy caravans and motor cars and even into battle.
Kenneth Grahame, 1859-1931, English author. He was a secretary in the Bank of England from 1908 until 1918. His works, noted for their humour and charm, include The Golden Age (1895) and Dream Days (1898), scenes of his childhood in England, and the children's classic The Wind in the Willows (1908). Grahame also compiled the Cambridge Book of Poetry for Young People (1916).
