When a tornado hits Dorothys home in the Kansas prairies, she and her dog, Toto, are whisked away to the magical Land of Oz.
To return home, Dorothy must follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City and seek help from the great and powerful Wizard of Oz. So, accompanied by the Tin Woodman, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion, Dorothy sets out on a wild and magical adventure.
This classic childrens novel has been described as the first American fairy tale, and its huge global legacy includes numerous book, film, TV and theatrical adaptations.
L. Frank Baum (1856-1919) published The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in 1900 and received enormous, immediate success. Baum went on to write seventeen additional novels in the Oz series. Today, he is considered the father of the American fairy tale. His stories inspired the 1939 classic film The Wizard of Oz, one of the most widely viewed movies of all time.
