Carretero's gentle narrative is one of the loveliest offerings to come out of Spain recently and demonstrates how an international title, rather than being culturally specific, can have universal appeal (...) Carretero's (...) text reads like poetry; readers can almost feel her luxuriating over each word. The book includes paper doll cutouts and coloring sheets at the end. These would make terrific storytime craft activities when reading this work. VERDICT A tender, imaginative tale of love between a mother and daughter, lovingly written, designed, and illustrated.--Tim Wadham, Children's Literature Consultant, School Library Journal (November, 2016)
Monica Carretero was born in Madrid. She has always loved to paint and create stories. She is self-taught. Her life is to paint ad write. When she illustrates books she intends the illustrations to be a perfect complement of the text and to tell something more. She wants both children and adults to get "lost" in her illustrations and dream, to discover meanings that are hidden in the text but can be felt. She likes to transmit hope, humor, excitement, tenderness, and especially love. She has worked for big and important publishing houses and she has also collaborated in specialized journals and magazines. Monica Carretero is a very prolific and successful author and illustrator with many award winning titles to her name.
