Ruth Behar is an acclaimed author of adult fiction and nonfiction, and Lucky Broken Girl--winner of the Pura Belpre Award--is her first book for young readers. She was born in Havana, Cuba, grew up in New York, and has lived and worked in Spain and Mexico. Her honors include a MacArthur "Genius" Award, a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, a Fulbright Senior Fellowship, and a Distinguished Alumna Award from Wesleyan University. Gabriel Frye-Behar is a Jewban from Ann Arbor. He graduated from NYU with a BFA in film production and a second major in history, and he's been working on film and photography in New York ever since. He is currently a faculty instructor at Stonestreet Studios. He makes his home in Brooklyn. Maribel Lechuga is the illustrator of many children's books, including Ten Beautiful Things and Seaside Stroll. Her recent project, What's in Your Pocket, received two starred reviews. Maribel loves the environment and animals and recharges her batteries by hiking through the Spanish hills.
