Description

Evie Baker is a great story-teller, an avid prankster, and a fantastic baker, who has no plans to stay in her small town and become stuffy or static. Evie dreams of adventures and she knows just how to do it! With her best friend by her side, Evie sets off into the Old Forest to find a Fel, a crow-like magical creature who can't lie. She is sure her family's irresistible raspberry tart and a carefully crafted deal will lead to a magical adventure-without getting her eaten or worse. But the forest hides many dangers and when they finally find their Fel, they also discover a nest of robbers! YA novelist Caitlin Sangster makes her middle-grade debut in this fun fairy tale filled with adventure, friendship, baking, and the power of a tale well-told.

Reviews

"This middle grade novel is as charming as it is mouthwatering ... Readers who are as adventure-seeking as Evie will want to join her as she takes on magical enemies with only her wits and baking skills." -- The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books (BCCB)

"In her middle-grade debut, Sangster brings readers an exciting tale of fantasy, questing, and finding one's inner hero." --Booklist Online

Author Bio

Caitlin Sangster is the author of the Last Star Burning series, She Who Rides the Storm, and A Baker's Guide to Robber Pie. Growing up in the backwoods of California made her into the sort of person who would rather go hiking, running, swimming, or general outdoorsing than just about anything else. She has been writing since middle school, a habit that seemed a little silly until she realized people liked reading stories and she liked writing them and there wasn't much silly about that. She currently lives near Chicago with her husband and four children. CaitlinSangster.com
