* Winner of the Foyles Children's Book of the Year, and the New York Times/New York Public Library Best Illustrated Book of the Year *
When the log princess goes missing her brother, the little wooden robot, sets out on an epic adventure to find her. He will encounter goblins, magic puddings, a mushroom queen and a very intimidating wood pile as he seeks to bring his sister home.
The Little Wooden Robot and the Log Princess is an exquisitely illustrated modern fairytale about sibling love. Tom Gauld brings all of his wit, draghtsmanship and narrative craft to a funny, moving tale that proves that woodlice can be heroes too.
The New York Times review: "one of the best picture books I've read this year. It's a cabinet of curiosities in a clockwork castle... it's a funny, twisty, heartfelt yarn." -Ben Hatke
The Irish Times review: "The narrative is full of surprises [...] but it is Gauld's detailed, textured illustrations that will draw a young reader's attention back to this wonderful book again and again."
'...The precise, pristine illustrative style of Tom Gauld. His drily witty cartoons grace publications such as New Scientist, The Guardian and The New Yorker, and now he has produced a picture book, The Little Wooden Robot and the Log Princess. In the neat fairytale, a king and queen ask an inventor and a witch to give them what they most desire, children. The family is happy, but then the princess - who reverts to being a log at night - is cast out of the palace by mistake and her robot brother sets off to find her. It's every bit as sweet and charming as it sounds.' - The Financial Times
'THE LITTLE WOODEN ROBOT AND THE LOG PRINCESS by the cartoonist Tom Gauld is a modern fairytale. It is a gorgeously illustrated picture book with a beautiful message about the special bond between siblings. I adored it. And so did Ernie!' - David Walliams
