Description

When young Kendra Kandlestar is granted a wand by the ancient tree of Een, she yearns to become a great sorceress. But magic doesn't come easily to Kendra, and she soon turns to the shard from Greeve - and its dark power - to help her rescue her brother from the Rumble Pit, a deadly gladiator arena where centaurs, dragons, and a myriad of mythical creatures are forced to fight in a fierce contest for survival. Yet Kendra soon discovers that the greatest battle just might be the one brewing inside her own heart.

Reviews

""In his legendary way, author and illustrator Lee Edward Fodi flawlessly mixes magic, monsters and mystery for his readers...This family friendly series and exciting book is filled with thought provoking issues, Kendra Kandlestar and the Shard from Greeve will entertain readers of all ages.""
Midwest Book Review

Kendra Kandlestar is back with an amazing new fantasy adventure in this third volume in the series. Mythic archetypes are explored amidst plenty of humour and action. Kendra also faces choices that illustrate the importance of accountability in our lives.
CCBC, Best Books 2010

Although Kendra Kandlestar and the Shard from Greeve is the third volume in a series, it works as a stand-alone read...It would be an excellent addition for personal, class, school and public libraries. Highly Recommended.
Deborah Mervold, CM Magazine

I loved this book and now want to go back to read the first two stories. Kendra and her friends are engaging characters, at once humorous (in a Pippi Longstocking kind of way) yet also ""real.""...This is a most enjoyable book that is likely to be shared over and over again.
The Reading Tub

As always, Fdi fills his world with unique and unusual creatures, brought to life through their dialects and the lively artwork that decorates almost every page. While the settings are fantastic, the problems and motivations of the characters will resonate with real-life kids.
10 Stories Up

The Chronicles of Kendra Kandlestar have introduced its fans to increasingly important life challenges. The dark power of the Shard from Greeve is the most difficult, yet. In the process, Kendra learns the value of true friendship and demonstrates that to be Een--or human--means having the strength to overcome the greatest foe of all . . . ourselves.

Author Bio

Growing up on a farm, Lee Edward Fdi was subjected to various horrible chores such as cleaning up after chickens, pigs, geese, and younger siblings. There was a time when his father harbored hopes that his son would take over the family business--but these aspirations came to an abrupt end when the young author accidentally ran the tractor over his dad's outhouse (thankfully, his dad was not inside at the time). As a result, Fdi went on to pursue his love of art, mythology, and storytelling, all of which (luckily) do not require any skill in operating heavy machinery. He is the author and illustrator of The Chronicles of Kendra Kandlestar and has also illustrated several picture books, including I'll Follow the Moon and The Chocolatier's Apprentice, a Canadian national bestseller. When he is not writing and illustrating, Fdi spends his time teaching kids how to daydream through his fun-filled creative writing workshops. He enjoys travelling, and especially exploring castles, mazes, tombs, and temples--not to mention tiny places hidden between the cracks of here and there.
