Siobhan McDermott was born in Hong Kong and grew up on a steady stream of stories filled with Chinese legends and Irish folklore. She now lives in the UK and continues to order dim sum in Cantonese tinged with a distinctly Dublin lilt. Paper Dragons: The Fight for the Hidden Realm is her debut novel and was chosen as Waterstones Children's Book of the Month. Her debut was inspired by moments across her life: from childhood ferry trips between Lantau Island and Hong Kong, to travelling around Taiwan, Italy and Spain.Yuzhen Cai (Illustrator) Yuzhen Cai is an illustrator and animator living in Shanghai, China. She trained in academic painting and sketching before moving to London in 2016 to study BA Illustration at the Camberwell College of Arts, where she graduated with a first class degree and was highly commended by the Macmillan Prize 2019.Yuzhen has since completed a Masters in research at the Royal College of Art, where she explored illustration and storytelling. She is fascinated by whimsical settings and playful characters and enjoys creating art in both digital and manual mediums, combining flat bold colours with handmade textures.
