Abby's class duck - Max - is banned from the school when it seems he has destroyed the papier mache Antarctica display the children have made for the most important assembly in the history of assemblies. Worse still, Abby's beloved teacher Mrs Melvino plans to leave with him! Abby and her friend Noah race against time to prove that Max is not the culprit, culminating in the important assembly, where Max (coated in poster paint) plays a starring role as a penguin and his ongoing presence in the classroom is assured.
Leila Rudge's gorgeous pencil illustrations beautifully round out another fabulously fun tale from the talented McKinlay. * Kids' Book Review *
This is a delightful little offering which will appeal to readers ages six and up, and would be perfect for sharing in a classroom setting though it may lead to pressure for a new classroom pet! * Aussie Reviews *
McKinlay is a master storyteller, somehow finding the perfect balance between what kids genuinely WANT to read, and what adults recommend as fine literature. * The Book Chook *
Highly recommended. * Allison Paterson *
This is a great book for newly independent readers. * Louise Pfanner *
Meg McKinlay grew up in Bendigo, Victoria, in a book-loving, TV- and car-free household. On the long and winding path to becoming a childrens writer, she has worked a variety of jobs including swim instructor, tour guide, translator and teacher. These days, she lives with her family near the ocean in Fremantle and divides her time between teaching and writing, a balance that swings wildly between chaos and calm. She is always busy cooking up more books and you can visit her on the web at www.megmckinlay.com
Leila Rudge was born in England and grew up making mud pies with six siblings and Jeni from number 15. After completing an Illustration Degree at Bath Spa University, Leila headed to Australia to seek her fortune (and the sunshine). Creating tiny characters for books is her favourite part of illustrating.
