Description

Bereaved by the death of their parents, five sisters live in a seaside villa--growing up together, sharing their grief, experiences, and love. Bereaved by the death of their parents, five sisters live in a seaside villa--growing up together, sharing their grief, experiences, and love. Oldest daughter Charlie struggles to care for her sisters in the wake of the accident that took their parents, while each of the younger sisters narrates a volume of the series, taking place over a year. Each girl has her own personality and point of view, and reflects some aspect of ourselves back to us- Enid, age 9, is outgoing, with a great sense of humor; Hortense, age 11, is shy and likes to be alone; Bettina, age 14, is good-hearted but temperamental; Genevieve, age 16, is passionate about cooking and boxing. This, the first volume, is narrated by youngest sister Enid and takes place in autumn. A free spirit, she enjoys wandering alone and talking to animals and anything she meets. Her best friend Gulliver is, like her, offbeat and creative. When Enid begins hearing ghost-like screams, the two friends embark on a scary adventure. These sisters are not perfect and they may not always get along, but in times of need, they can always count on one another. Nominated for the Children's Graphic Novel award at the Angoulame International Comics Festival. "This is a modern classic in kids' comics." - JT Lindross, Euro Comics Roundup

Author Bio

Malika Ferdjoukh was born in 1957 in Algeria and has lived in Paris since she was a child. While a student at the Sorbonne, she often skipped classes in favor of watching American movies at the "cine-club." She writes scripts for television and has published several novels for children, including Four Sisters and the multi-volume mystery/detective stories The Rain Club, as well as Young Adult novels Broadway Limited and Alfred's Reel. Cati Baur was born in Geneva in 1973. After getting a master's degree at the Sorbonne, she was determined to become a cartoonist. An admirer of Claire Bretecher, Will Eisner, and greatly influenced by the environment in which she worked, she started a blog in 2004 in which she shared her daily life with a certain Princess Capiton. She published two graphic novels--Holiday and I Quit Smoking--before working with Malika Ferdjoukh on Four Sisters.
