Description

Its the summer before high school and Isaiah feels lost. And Isaiah wasnt even there when it happened, with his best friend in his final moments. But hes going to be there now. Him and Drew both, theyre gonna spend the summer breaking every single record they can think of, for Darius, for his dream of breaking world records. But Drews not the same Drew, and Isaiah being Isaiah isnt enough for Drew anymore. Not his taste in music, his love for D&D, his interest in taking photos, or his aversion to jumping off rooftops. The real Isaiah is sensitive; hes uncool.

And one day something unspeakable happens to Isaiah that makes him think Drews right. If only he could be less sensitive, more tough, less weird, more cool, more contained, less him, things would be easier. But how much can Isaiah keep inside until he shatters wide open

Author Bio

Alicia D. Williams is the author of Genesis Begins Again, which received Newbery and Kirkus Prize honors, was a William C. Morris Award finalist, and for which she won the Coretta Scott King - John Steptoe Award for New Talent; and picture books Jump at the Sun and The Talk, for which she received a Coretta Scott King Author Honor. A graduate of the MFA program at Hamline University, and an oral storyteller in the African American tradition, she lives in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Danica Novgorodoff is an artist, writer, graphic designer, and horse wrangler who lives in Kentucky.
