Eleonore Schmid was born in Lucerne, Switzerland in 1939. After studying at the local Art School she worked for three years as a graphic designer in Zurich. It was at this time that she began to design and illustrate books, children's magazines, games, menus and stamps. After travelling around Europe she settled for a time in Paris before moving on to New York where her first Picture Books were published.
