Great cities of glass and steel reaching up into the heavens. sinister iron birds peck at the sky.
It's 1899. Every night at twelve minutes to midnight the inmates of Bedlam, London's notorious hospital for the insane, rise from their beds and begin scribbling strange words on any surface they can find - the walls of their cells, even their own skin. What can it all mean Penelope Treadwell is intrigued.
Soon she's ensnared in a venomous plot, and Penny realises that this isn't just a story, it's the future. And the future looks deadly.
Christopher Edge grew up in Manchester where he spent most of his childhood in the local library dreaming up stories, but now lives in Gloucestershire where he spends most of his time in the local library dreaming up stories. Before becoming a writer, he worked as an English teacher, editor and publisher - any job that let him keep a book close to hand. When not writing, he also works as a freelance publisher and education consultant and has written publications about encouraging children to read.
