After Confederate General Robert E. Lee's surrender on April 9 1865 the Civil War finally appeared to be coming to a close. But the nation's joy was about to be cut short by a sinister and sadly successful presidential assassination and one of the largest manhunts in U.S. history. The intertwined story lines tell the fascinating tales of the people who experienced the tragedy firsthand.
A highly attractive design featuring crisp photos, colored text boxes and sidebars, and clearly labeled chapters and subsections sets this series apart. . . .the appealing visuals, strong writing, and solid nonfiction features make this of interest to both middle schoolers and struggling high school readers.-- "School Library Journal"
