Author Bio

Emily Horgen is a conservation intern at Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC) in Juno Beach, Florida. She is 17-years-old and attends the Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens. After travelling to Hainan, China, in the summer of 2018, where she established a partnership with marinelife professor Dr. Lin of Hainan Normal University,

Emily was inspired to help save sea turtles in the South China Sea that are poached for their meat and shells. Emily has been studying Mandarin for eight years and is heavily involved in the arts at her high school. She combined her interests to create and illustrate an educational children's book, written in both English and Mandarin. She hopes that Lee the Sea Turtle Swims Free will inspire children in both China and the United States to help protect endangered sea turtles.

Emily wants to thank her parents for their support, her mentor Katie O'Hara at LMC for working
with her on this project, her friend Eudora Song for her assistance in translation, and
her partner Dr. Lin for collaborating with her on this multicultural project
