A graphically gorgeous book about how different animals live and the lively, loving relationships they have with their babies.
This is a book about animal mommies and babies that is funny, lively, poetic, and deeply intriguing. The art was made using frottage, hand drawing, and computer techniques. The textures produced aredeep and immersive yet immediate, drawing the reader into the rich visual world of the book.
"Its a distinctive combination: warm and fuzzy verse accompanied by primitive, provocative images." Publishers Weekly "The artwork was made, in part, by inking interestingly textured objects and then pressing paper onto them, a technique children will want to try for themselves." Kirkus Reviews "The art was made using a technique called collagraphy. The textures produced are deep and immersive yet immediate, drawing the reader into the rich visual world of the book." Mediander "This expressive, delicate and intimate series of portraits of mothers and babies creates a chain of images of love that envelopes and nurtures young readers age two and up." The Picturebook Shelf "Textured black-ink prints with spots of color on creamy, thick paper add to the richness of the experiences portrayed in this collection of 11 poems . . . The bold, relief-print illustrations with bright patches of color bolster the offbeat, playful atmosphere." -- Jeanne McDermott, Booklist "I love looking at this book and reading it with my family."
