Description

In the fifth book in the New York Timesbest-selling chapter book series about the childhood of America's favorite housekeeper, Amelia Bedelia takes to the field, the yoga mat, and the track, with hilarious results. Includes a guide to the idioms used in the book and features black-and-white art throughout. The Amelia Bedelia books have sold more than 35 million copies.

Amelia Bedelia's friends and classmates all have a particular sport that they love and are good at. Amelia Bedelia loves sports and games of all kinds, for different reasons. She has fun (and she loves to dribble and dunk and run home), but she is not the fastest or strongest or quickest at anything. Amelia Bedelia would love to have a sport to call her ownand so when her class at school studies the sports of ancient Greece, she goes on a mission to find one! With Amelia Bedelia, anything can happenand it usually does. Short, fast-paced chapters, tons of friends and funny situations, and black-and-white illustrations by Lynne Avril on every page make the Amelia Bedelia chapter books an ideal choice for readers of the Ivy + Bean, Magic Tree House, and Judy Moody books.

Author Bio

Herman Parish was in the fourth grade when his aunt, Peggy Parish, created Amelia Bedelia, the literal-minded housekeeper. Peggy wrote twelve books in the series before she passed away in 1988. The interest of educators and the enthusiasm of young readers prompted Herman to continue the character in 1995 with his first book, Good Driving, Amelia Bedelia. Since then, Herman has added more than thirty books to the series. He has carried on her adventures as a housekeeper in books such as the best-selling Amelia Bedelia, Bookworm, and he has broken new ground in his most recent books portraying Amelia Bedelia as a young girl. She may be little, but she is as literal as ever. There are picture books for the youngest children, including the national bestsellers Amelia Bedelia's First Day of School and Amelia Bedelia's First Valentine. Young Amelia Bedelia also appears in I Can Read Level 1 beginning readers and a new series of chapter books, starting with the best-selling Amelia Bedelia Means Business and Amelia Bedelia Unleashed. Amelia Bedelia celebrated her 50th birthday in 2013, and she is still going strong.
