A heartwarming story of the friendship between an older fisherman and a kind and dedicated octopus named Octavius.
I was born and grew up in Bermuda, a small island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Our family home was on the north shore of the island along deep water with no beaches, but with a lovely view of the ships channel into the City of Hamilton and its dock. We had our own dock with a diving board, from where we fished, swam, and snorkeled. It was fun and challenging to try to find octopuses during our dives, because they frequently would cling to the rocks and change colors to blend in with their surroundings.
I married an American and have lived happily in the U.S. ever since. However, we did spend the winters in Bermuda for many years and I continue to return in the summers to see my favorite island and friends. And each trip back reminds me of my adventures to see my tentacled friends.
