Text and photographs describe the lives of baby elephants calves from birth to early maturity.
The Animal Offspring series is part of the Pebble Plus series and of the Accelerated Reader Program. All the titles trace the lives of animal offspring from birth to young adulthood. They are noteworthy for their full-page color photographs - perfect for story time - and the very simple text that covers what the animals eat and how they play, learn, and grow: "Young gorillas learn to find food. Gorillas eat plants and bark" (Gorillas and Their Infants, p. 16). "Cubs live with their mothers for about two years, then each cub leaves to find its own home" (Tigers and Their Cubs, p. 18). The glossaries are useful, as are the sections entitled "Read More" and "Internet Sites." The Animal Offspring titles would be useful for starting very young children on an exploration of the animal world around them. Each title has as a consultant, the president of a sanctuary for that species.-- "Science Books and Films"
