Barbara Shaw McKinney is a teacher as well as a poet. She was inspired to use the magic of children's literature to spark her students' curiosity about the wonders of water. She vowed to "turn a drop of rain into a drop of life, astounding children by its eternity." Her sprightly verse elicits a "water wow!" in A Drop Around the World, her first book. She is also the author of Pass the Energy Please!, a wonderful exploration of nature's food chain, written in rhyming verse. From Manchester, Connecticut, McKinney draws on her experience as a mother, musician, and curriculum developer to promote quality education through workshops for teachers. Michael Maydak is a professional artist who is passionate about nature-especially the riparian environments that he loves so much as a fly fisherman. He and his son, Wolf, often go fishing together. Mike is an art graduate of San Jose University and has been a professional artist since 1976, with his studio at his home in Cool, California. This is the fifth book he has illustrated for Dawn Publications. As a child, John Paterson was fascinated by the changing form, steady purpose, and life-giving magic of water. Later, he chased rivers throughout the country as a white-water kayaker and raft guide. Professionally, he has helped craft stories of nature and culture for museums and other educational organizations including the Field Museum and the Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago. He lives with his wife and two children in Northbrook, Illinois. Martha Sullivan is a children's book author with a special interest in nature and sustainability. Born and raised in the US, Martha has also lived in Belgium, Austria, the UK, and most recently, County Clare, Ireland, where she enjoys kayaking, hiking, set-dancing, and gardening. Martha is passionate about her mission-helping children to connect with the natural world so that they are primed to protect it later in life. A Master's thesis on Education for Sustainable Development through the University of Bath was the catalyst that moved Martha from the classroom where she taught Biology for fifteen years to the writer's desk. She now focuses on stories that help children to understand the importance of biodiversity and conservation. Cathy Morrison is an award-winning illustrator who lives in Colorado, within view of both the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains. She watches the plants, the animals, and rain-all close up and personal. She began her career in animation and graphic design, but discovered her passion for children's book illustration while raising her two children. After several years illustrating with traditional media, she now works digitally, which helps the publisher adapt the art into interactive book apps.
