This introduction to one of nature's most endearing animals - the bear - is written primarily for students in the 2nd-5th grades, although it can be adapted for other levels. A text source for students and a resource for teachers, the book includes instructional units in science and social studies focusing on the polar, grizzly, black and panda bears. A chapter called "The Generic Bear" offers multi-curricular activities appropriate for use with the study of any bear. Although the book emphasises the study of the bear, the bear's warm, fuzzy counterpart, the teddy bear, is also included. Its history and its role in literature, song and poetry are covered. Activities designed around the teddy bear may be incorporated into the curriculum for those special classroom celebrations. Recipes, a bibliography of resources and the diverse activities in this book offer new learning dimensions to the creative teacher.
