Dave Gunson has created an activity book based entirely around New Zealand wildlife with a series of indoor and fun outdoor projects for kids to explore. Special fold-out covers will have instant appeal with die-cut masks and the mobile pieces inside the back cover need only glue and string to assemble. A dragonflyer plane is constructed using a photocopier and some light card and both girls and boys will enjoy the seashell projects. The Species Spotter challenge includes five levels, from easy to very difficult indeed with children asked to write when and where they found each New Zealand species. There are word puzzles and games with solutions at the back of the book and funny jokes lurk on the edge of the pages. With educational value implicit in all the activities, there are plenty of fun projects in the book as kids can hunt for spiders, build a butterfly nursery and create tasty treats to put in a bird feeder.
Dave Gunson is a prolific writer and illustrator of children's books. His highly successful colour-illustrated All About series includes Birds, Insects, Plants, Seashore, Sea Life, Garden Wildlife and Wildlife of the Past and is published by New Holland. He has also produced four best-selling natural history Read, Colour and Keep colouring-in books - Birds, Shore and Sea Life, New Zealand Wildlife and Garden Wildlife, and the encyclopaedic Big Book of New Zealand Wildlife. Dave has also recently illustrated a children's picture book for New Holland called Grandpa Ngata and the Seagull.
