"Grandpa's Treasures" is a book about the special blessings, "free bees" ,we have in our environment. They are the animals, bugs and birds that are in our everyday environment. This book will help our children to appreciate the contributions that
these "critters" give us to enjoy. The "critters" talk to the children and tell them what they eat and where they live. This book will make them more aware of nature and the living things around them everyday. Some of the stories tell the children the contributions that some of the "critters" contributed to the history of our country. They can learn about protecting our environment and wild life.
The poems were written for my children by my Dad. He was a biology teacher in our local college.. I illustrated the book and wrote the stories. I taught students from 5 to 95 in Special Education classes and Adult Education classes through our public school system. Each story has a work sheet for the children to color and answer questions. This is a great life science book for Children in the Public School System and the Home School Programs. Lets teach our children to appreciate the wonderful free blessings we have around us everyday!
I am retired from teaching Special Education for the Grossmont Union School District and the San Diego Community College in San Diego. My last 10 years was with the Cajon Valley Union School District in El Cajon, Calif. It was a blessing to teach student from ages 5 to 95 years of age. I graduated from San Diego State University with a major in Art. I used my arts and crafts degree in my teaching with my students.
I hope this book will help bring more awareness to those who read this book of the great surprises and blessings that are in our environment. There are many special "Fee Bees" out there like animals, bugs, and birds! Have fun finding them! Enjoy all these precious "critters" and help protect them when you can.

NEWS FLASH.... See how many mice you can find in the pictures in the book! Gene Stevens, most commonly know to me as "Dad", wrote these poems for my two children when they were little. He was a Biology and life science teacher at Palomar Junior College in San Marcus, Calif. He loves to camp, fish and hike. That is where He taught me most of what I know about nature, plus all the "critters" He brought home that needed love and care. Grandma told me," When I did his washing, I always checked His pockets, because I never knew what I would find in them!"
