When expectant parents arrive at a home-style birthing center in Belfast, Maine, Baby Max is born. He is tiny. Soon, family friends have mixed reactions, one of them worried about the baby's lack of size. However, as one of the two grandmothers predicted, he grows. Like the change of seasons, Max changes as he grows.
