Every day Forty-three children in the U.S. alone are diagnosed with cancer. That's 43 too many! And that's not counting the myriad of other life-threatening diagnoses children may receive.
Please hear these words of the mother of a child diagnosed with Leukemia: "We heard the four most frightening words a parent could ever hear: 'Your child has cancer.' Your life literally stops, flips upside down, and your brain is going a million miles an hour with questions that can never truly be answered, and the ones that can't bring much comfort."
Sather's perspective is unique in that she herself is a cancer survivor. This brings true compassion for the families of children facing the disease-and a deep connection with the children themselves. It's difficult enough as an adult to face the uncertainties; much less facing them as a child is hard to fathom.
That's why she wrote and illustrated "Yuckity Yick: It's No Fun Being Sick." This book playfully and sensitively walks children through the scary things they may face during diagnoses and treatment. And it helps kids face their challenges with courage, knowing they are never alone.
RoseAnne Sather (Zan, or Zanma as she's known to her grandkids) lives in Greeley, Colorado, with her husband, David. She has been an art director/graphic designer for a variety of children's resources for the past 30 years. "Yuckity Yick" was born out of her own struggle with cancer. Zan's prayer is that this book breathes hope into children and families facing similar battles.
