Originally designed by Professor Frederic M. Wheelock as a sequel to Wheelock's Latin, his classic introductory Latin course, the second edition of Wheelock's Latin Reader has been revised by Professor Richard A. La Fleur for use as an intermediate text following any elementary Latin course. This new edition contains extensive readings, both prose and poetry, from a wide range of classical authors, including Cicero, Livy, Ovid and Pliny, as well as briefer selections from medieval and Late Latin. Useful features include a large, easy-to-read typeface for all Latin texts; introductions and extensive facing notes for each unit; a complete Latin-English vocabulary; maps of ancient Italy, Greece and the Roman Empire; and numerous new photographs illustrating aspects of classical culture presented in the book's readings.
