A historical story set in the run up to World War II. It's the summerof 1939 and a Jewish family prepare for war to break out. ForMiriam, the threat of war is terrifying, particularly when her parentsannounce that they are moving away from London. Miriam must cope withthe upheaval of leaving her beloved cat and all her friends. Herparents begin to call her Mandy, without explaining why and Miriamrealises that everything around her is changing very fast.
Alison Prince was joint winner of the Guardian Fiction Award in 1996 for The Sherwood Heroand is particularly known for her historical fiction. She has had manybooks published with OUP and has written two titles for Scholastic's My Story series, My Tudor Queen and Anne Boleyn and Me.
