Description

Honeysuckle flowers and a hummingbird feeder have attracted Zip, a ruby-throated hummingbird, to return to Fredericksburg, Virginia every summer. Sam the Siamese cat anxiously awaits Zip's arrival each spring, and loves spending the season outdoors on the deck with his migratory friend. This story captures the fun that Zip and Sam have as they meet again after Zip's long migration from his winter home. "Zip, Zip, Hooray!" encourages friendship and kindness among diverse characters.

Author Bio

Brenda Love is a retired elementary school librarian who lives in Fredericksburg, Virginia with her husband Steve and their cat Samantha. She taught high school and middle school science and worked as an instructional coordinator, but her favorite job was being a children's librarian. She enjoys reading on the deck as Samantha naps under a fern, Zip flies toward his feeder, and other animals play in the nearby trees. Park Ridge Elementary School will always be in her heart.

Sathomi Ekanayake is a Sri Lankan illustrator based in Kyoto, Japan. She primarily works on children's book illustrations and fashion illustrations. Sathomi grew up reading her sister's picture books and has always loved drawing and painting. She graduated from Northumbria University, UK with a Bachelor of Arts Honors in Fashion and Textile Design. During her fashion school years, she was always passionate about illustration more than she was in designing and manufacturing clothing. After graduating from fashion school in 2019, she decided to become a full-time illustrator. At the latter part of 2020 she began her career as a freelance illustrator and has loved it ever since.
