Description

Capitalism is killing the planet and its people and yet we are told there is no alternative. This book shows that multiple possibilities do exist, and always have done. Swift dissects history and cuts through resistant thinking with brilliant ideas. He advocates less ideology and more practical transformation based on democratic self-governance, degrowth, social wages and control of financial markets.

Reviews

'It is exhilarating to read of the multiple possibilities that already exist and can serve as an energizing inspiration to action. Eloquent and inspirational.' Jeremy Seabrook, Red Pepper; 'Grounded in an impressive base in the literature of alternatives to capitalism and in a wide knowledge of many social movements around the world.' Ecosocialists.org; 'Richard Swifts SOS Alternatives to Capitalism makes a major contribution to changing the parameters of political debate. It helps us move beyond the pseudo-alternatives of the political mainstream and begin to work for the kind of change we can believe in without being delusional.' John P Clark, Professor of Philosophy at Loyola University, New Orleans, and author of The Impossible Community.
