Reviews

A Western Michigan librarian/economist team has compiled this international list of 450 economics serials in English to assist collection developers and economic researchers. Titles are arranged alphabetically, with excellent annotations that are both descriptive and evaluative. Inclusion of cited titles in data-bases is noted. A chapter on major English-language indexes and abstracts in economics follows the bibliography. At the end are a geographical index, an index of publishers, and a classified list of titles for alternate access. Highly recommended for academic and specialized research libraries.-Library Journal
The joint work of an academic librarian and an academic economist, this bibliography lists 450 English-language serials published worldwide. The emphasis is on scholarly journals published at least twice yearly, although a few annuals and especially important government publications are included. The only foreign-language titles covered are those publications in which most articles are written in English. Each entry provides bibliographic information about the title, including the date founded, previous titles, frequency, price, name and address of publisher, editor's name, circulation, where indexed or abstracted, and target audience (academic, general public, specialist). Entries also indicate if the title features book reviews, illustrations, advertisements, an index, or is available on microform or on a database. The compilers provide full description and evaluative annotations, discussing content, editorial policy, authority of contributors, technical format, and unique or special characteristics. The geographical index, publishers' index, and classified title index are all useful. This work fills an important gap and will be especially valuable to collection development librarians as well as research economists. Highly recommended for college and university libraries.-Choice
