This work presents background information on, and analysis of, the economic and political changes that are taking place in Central and Eastern Europe. The author's work is based on research conducted at the Department of Economics at Harvard University. The book provides the basis for future evaluation of the changes in post-Communist economies. Ilianna Zloch-Christy has been a consultant with the United Nations, International Monetary Fund, and other international organizations. She held faculty fellowships at the Department of Economics, the Center for European Studies, and Russian Research Center, all at Harvard University, the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution, and Peace at Stanford University, and at St. Antony's College at Oxford University, U.K.. She holds a PhD in economics from the University of Vienna, Austria, and has worked as a research fellow at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Dr. Zloch-Christy has travelled extensively in Eastern Europe, and is fluent in many languages including Bulgarian, German, English, and Russian.
