Andreas G. Papandreou wrote from an unusual background. His experience embraced not only the academic world of teaching and research but also the world of political and governmental affairs, and his varied career was global in dimension. As a cabinet minister in Greece and a leader of the countrys democratic forces, he was imprisoned and then exiled by the military junta which seized power in 1967. He continued the struggle for a democratic Greece as leader of the Panhellenic Liberation Movement. He was a professor of economics at York University, Toronto, Canada, and also taught at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was chairman of the economics department, and the University of Minnesota, Northwestern University, and the University of Stockholm. He was the author of a number of books.
