This edited volume provides extensive coverage of the extraction of underwater minerals, ranging from lakes, rivers, continental shelves of coastal states, and the deep ocean. The volume features interdisciplinary contributions from experts on topics relating to the science, environment, technology, politics, and law and governance of underwater mining. Thus, it is the first known of its kind to collate all forms of underwater minerals extraction into one volume as well as one that views such minerals in a broad sense, including sand and gravel as well as salt. Given the growing interest in discovering alternative sources of minerals, this volume would appeal to a broad audience with interests in underwater mining and the geopolitics or environmental concerns of resource extraction.
Pradeep A. Singh has a background in international law and specializes in the law of the sea, international environmental law, natural resource law, climate policy, and ocean governance.
