Worldwide, the electric utility industry has been changing over the last several years as deregulation and privatization have been instituted. These changes in how the industry does business are summarized, and the evolving experience of the deregulation in 15 major countries is analyzed. In addition to the analysis, theoretical models and detailed case studies are provided to illustrate the changes. Utility regulatory agency personnel, utility management staff, and research professionals will all be interested in this work.
"A combination of technology and ideology has stimulated the wave of electricity reform efforts around the world. Operating in sequence, led by Chile, and in parallel, from Tokyo to Oslo, there is a great opportunity to experiment and learn from the diverse experience it unfolds. This comprehensive survey and comparison of the reforms in different countries will be "must reading" for any serious student of the subject. The author has provided us with a sophisticated analysis of different approaches that goes beneath the surface of superficial similarities to highlight some of the differences through detailed case studies."-Professor W. Hogan John F. Kennedy School of Government Harvard University
The major redeeming quality of the book is in its comprehensive characterisation of the global trend towards electricity supply industry restructuring, with special emphasis on the USA, UK and EU. It is clearly written, well organised and well researched in this respect.-The Journal of Energy Literature, Vol 1, 1999
