A significant topic in American society, sports ethics has also been the subject of an increasing number of scholarly studies during the past two decades. Moreover, a growing number of courses on sports are being offered at colleges and universities. In "Sports Ethics in America" Donald G. Jones provides a reference tool for teaching and research in a variety of sports-related disciplines. The book is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary bibliography with some 2800 entries. Entries include both scholarly works and works written by journalists during the two decades from 1970 to 1990. The volume is divided into five major sections (1) General Works and Philosophy, (2) The Team, Players and Coaches, (3) The Game, Competition, and Contestants, (4) Sport and Society and (5) Reference Works. Each entry includes a brief listing of the subjects covered in the work.
A superb bibliography on the subject. Recommended for academic and main library sports reference collections.-Reference Book Review
Designed as a research tool for scholars and students as well as a source of practical information for coaches, athletic directors, administrators, and athletes, this comprehensive bibliography lists books and articles in journals, magazines, and newspapers generally published in the US since 1970. The nearly 2,900 entries are not annotated but include several quite helpful subject scope terms. The citations, an effective blend of scholarly and popular materials, are arranged in five major categories: "General Works," "The Team, Players and Coaches," "The Game, Competition and Contestants," "Sports and Society," "Reference Works." Within these major categories, separate chapters allow quick location of materials related to such primary topics as drug use and testing, gambling, violence, minorities, women, and the media.-Choice
