Across the badlands and through desert alkali they drove their little herd. Those steers represented every cent Kirk Jordan and Pecos Johnson owned. They were looking for grass, drifting their stuff until they could find range where they could settle down and start to build a little spread.
They were told that there was grass and water up in the hills. That meant trouble. Grass and water always seemed to go with trouble.
But Jordan and Johnson moved into the hillsand trouble rode at their side by day and rolled up in their blankets with them by night. Kirk Jordan never knew when he was licked. Drought, rustlers, not even bushwhack lead could stop him; nor could it turn against him the girl who dared to face her fathers wrath and the treachery of a gun-ridden valley to find happiness.
