Rose has news for Celia she is due to have a baby by Celia's husband, Humphrey. First published in 1954, this was one of two gritty and atmospheric crime novels written by the accomplished children's author Nina Bawden.
Nina Bawden (19252012) was an English novelist and Golden PEN Award for her services to literature. Mostly known as a children's writer she won many awards such as the 1976 Guardian Children's Fiction Prize for The Peppermint Pig (1975) and was runner-up for the Carnegie Medal for Carrie's War (1973). She wrote two gritty and atmospheric crime novels.
